How AI and Micro Delegation Are Changing My Workflows
Hey there! Welcome back to Founder Mode! This week, I’m looking at how a couple newer AI tools and micro delegation are changing my work. They help me manage projects better and get little things done MUCH faster.
I’ve recently found two things that improve my work: AI tools like Devin and Manus, and what I'm calling micro delegation.
The Power of AI in My Workflow
Over the past few weeks, I’ve experienced a significant breakthrough in my workflow, particularly with AI on smaller tasks. I used to hire junior developers on Upwork for different tasks. Fun fact: I've hired over 700 freelancers in the past 20 years (using oDesk, then Upwork), who have collectively billed 300,000 hours.
I’d give them a small assignments - small apps, build / edit websites. Then, I’d wait for a day or two, answer questions, review the code via GitHub pull requests (PRs), and discuss changes, and after a few rounds, call the task done. Less than 30min clock time but could be a week or so with async delays.
That worked for smaller tasks. Now, with tools like Devin and Manus, my workflow is much more efficient. I litlerly can just give the task to AI and it does the work in real-time.
Devin + Manus = A Game Changer
With Manus, I’m able to define work much faster. I use it to help me write specs, define ideas, and even create new websites or apps designs. Manus can work in parallel with many agents at the same time. Sometimes as a thought partner other times I ask it to give me a spec or set of tasks I can give to Devin. Here's my website URL take a look at X Y Z and suggest a better way to present this or add content or change the flow.
I pair output from Manus, which was released last month and pass that to Devin 2.0 also released in the last month or so. I setup Devin with access to the full source code in Github just like I would a freelancer. With the proper setup, it can quickly learn the code, design and suggest and make changes. It can also debug issues and give instant feedback. This has had a big impact personal projects and websites in a big way. You no longer need to hire outside help. I no longer need to dig into the details as I can ask Devin to show me in a browser what the change looks like before it commits / saves it. This combo makes it easier than ever to build an app or website. This video with has a deeper dive and also covers v0 which is great for UI prototyping.
From Manual Work to AI-Powered Automation
I call this micro delegation. I used to give small bits of tasks and feedback to a freelancer and wait. Now instead of pinging a developer or using offshore help, I’m simply telling the AI what I need. It’s that easy. If it's not exactly right I can ask it to change adjust. I've even given a bigger task like go run Pagespeed and review the report and make the site faster. Then it does!
5 Key Takeaways:
1. AI as a productivity booster:
Devin 2.0 and Manus have changed how I come up with and carry out ideas.
2. The power of automation:
AI tools are starting to fill in for junior developers. Get quick updates with ease. This saves you time and money.
3. Micro delegation is key.
Clear and detail instructions are going to get better results. Also first ask Devin to update your README and documentation. I find this is the best way to ensure Devin is setup right and that you can see it start to add value. This also ensures everyone stays on the same page and even human team members won’t get out of date.
4. Iterate and improve:
The more you use these tools, the better they get. But also the better YOU get. Start simple, and you’ll learn how to get more out of them as you go.
5. It’s an investment for the future.
Using AI tools saves time today. It also builds a scalable and sustainable system for the future. If you aren't trying a new tool or use each week I feel you will start to fall behind.
Final Thoughts
The world of remote work and AI is changing fast. Tasks that needed a whole team and a hard process can now be done easily and fast with the right tools. Devin 2.0 and Manus have made a huge difference in my productivity. These tools help me do more with less. They save time, which I can use for what really matters to my business.
If you haven't tried AI tools like these, give them a go! Whether it’s for personal projects or your business, they can be a game-changer.
Next week, I’ll go deeper into how I’ve been using AI for team management and scaling—stay tuned for that!
Also check out this weeks podcast with my friend Viktor a bunch of good tips on building teams with remote work.
See you next week,
